How To Conduct Yourself During Job Interview In Nigeria

The main reason for this article is to share this knowledge to job applicant so that they will understand the general arts of conducting themselves during any Job Interview.

We have notice that so many job seekers do not know how they should behave during job interview session and with that they end up mess up the chance that would have been an opportunity of a life time. Because been professional no one is born with it, it is a skill that is acquired and learned.

Be Polite And Manage Your Nerves

There is no power on this earth that can prevent you from feeling whatever you are feeling during job interview but if you have a frame work of good manners you will be okay.

You will have to look good and be well-prepared, you should know how to behave and I would suggest that you practice the situation all the time. What you need to do is to manage your physical and emotional feelings when you are in front of the interviewer.

You need to calm yourself down a little, by taking a breathing little by little and more deeply, try your best to get your attention off your mind, try your best to through your body out of the room. That is, try and believe that you are having a normal conversation with someone. When you are talking consciously slow your speech and try to deepen your voice tone early in the interview at the more formal part; later in the job interview you can lighten up when you have started a good rapport and when the rapport has been established.

There are some job interview that the interviewer will want to play normal or informal do not take advantage of the situation to misbehave, follow their lead on matters of protocol; don’t rush into the coffee because they are coffee there and you just start drinking; be sure to acknowledge everyone in the room; no need to be obsequious.

Be Prepared And Stay Professional

It all depend on the skill of the interviewer(s) the warm up period may be justify, when the interviewers are just passing time and you may get some unimportant but unexpected questions. But as times goes on during the job interview there could be any number of interviewing styles that may developed and whatever happens your best approach is to remain resolutely the professional that you have establish from the moment the interview started.

There are some question that you are not expecting and the interviewer may ask you anyways so try you best to be ready for any relative trivia like ‘what’s your idea of great weekend” or unexpected openers: ‘why do you like the look of this job”

Be prepare to answers any trick questions that you could think of; things like “why do you want to leave your present job” ‘what are your worst weaknesses” something you do not expect may just be asked during job interview.

The smart way out is for you to quickly respond with questions of your own, not anyhow question bases it on the research you have done in before coming for the job interview, giving them a chance to talk about the company.

In a momentary confusion you can ask them what is the reason behind a particular question, ‘could you clarify what you will like to learn here”?

Sometimes the interviewer tries to be aggressive you need to know tha aggressive interviews are probably just an act and they are looking for your response; staying calm and be professional, your professionalism will impress them the most and if they really do try to belittle you take the initiative with a counter question of your own they may just like you more.

Watch out for those indulgent interviewers they are the once who encourage your negative traits and they are to give you enough rope to hang yourself; never start swearing criticizing or giving away secret of your present employer or your past employer.

This is something you should always do that is stay with the truth: it is not the question that matters, nor is it your answer; it is what they see behind the question they asked and that will reveal everything about you, so you have to try your best to be honest and stay in the part of truth when answering your questions

Your job interviewer are wise so do not try to manipulate any techniques you have learned in sales training or elsewhere; many interviewers have been trained to notice when you are trying to manipulate anything and counter those and some organization will immediately reject you.

Leave a Positive Final Impression

After the end of an interview the way you say goodbye can leave a good impression for when they talk about you afterwards. So make sure that your handshake and smile are really warm during the termination of your interview and say something about how stimulating you found the interview.

Please and please do not try to gauge their feeling by asking what happens next, because what happen next is their business not yours, so don’t be pushy.

If in these final words you can include some brilliant phrase that summarizes the path of the interview, again without leaning too hard on their patience, then what would be in your favor too? Maybe something such as ‘I really like your plan for the new product roll-out strategy: it’s just the kind of thing I have been working towards in the last two years. “Hey might, after you leave, be scoring the interview to help them distinguish each candidate; a memorable moment or comment helps them to do that- and it doesn’t have to be spectacular.

You Do Not Need To Send Thank You Letter

In a world of automation and sophistication when you are dealing with trained, experienced and professional recruiter- it is dumb to believe that you will actually persuade them to select you instead of a better candidate simply because you have good manners

If you are close to being recruited, you might just make the judgment call that a letter to jog their memory would be useful and show strength of interest. If so, send it by email and keep it incredibly brief

Fix on some aspect of the interview itself and remain them of it in a professional way that is barely obvious at all; say something like:

“I was particularly interested in the XYZ project and my mind has been racing with further questions about the implications for the ABCD role.”
OR “What impressed me was the obvious commitment within the organization to XTZ development and the more I thought about this the more I saw an inspiring match with mu own career goals (and the more I uncovered questions it is too late to ask!). if time permits perhaps we could have a very brief discussion along those lines, by telephone id that suits you.

Once again, this is high risk and needs to be subtle. If you feel you must communicate and you aren’t sure what to say keep it polite and just say thanks, you enjoyed the experience and you are interested. If you have a handle on the scenario, take it a little further.

You do not have to so this; so don’t prejudice your chances with something lame.
